My Weekly Prep

To prep for the upcoming week, I have a weekly routine that I do every Sunday morning and I wanted to share that routine with you. It has helped me figure out what's really important to me and what can be put off for another week. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say my to-do list is a mile long. But I've found that when everyone on that to-do list is important, than nothing is. 

 

Before starting this routine, I would jam pack everything into my day and beat myself up at the end of the day for not getting more done. In reality, I got a ton accomplished but we tend to be our own worst critics. I also had a very skewed perception of time and how long things take to complete. Ha! I'm sure I'm not alone on that one either.

 

Side note - as I prep for baby #2, I reflect back to baby #1 and how I thought I'd get soooo much done when I was on maternity leave. All I can say now is hahahhahahhahahhahaha! 

 

Alright, let's get to it! 

 

So many women I've talked to over the years say "How do you find the time to get everything done?" I want to say to those women, "I don't". I CREATE the time and set priorities for certain things. But I also spend at least one hour per week on personal growth. If you can't create an hour of time for yourself, then you have bigger problems. I don't know what to tell ya! 

 

Every Sunday, I wake up about 5:30am. I love having the house to myself. I have always been a morning person but in the last few years, I've really enjoyed becoming even more of a morning person. My zone of genius is before 12:00pm and after that, my battery starts to die and I just want to relax or hang out with family. 

 

Not everyone is a morning person, so find a time that works best for you that you can sit quietly for 1-2 hours while you prep out the week. I don't really agree with all the "5am clubs" that you see everywhere but I understand their purpose. I feel like they leave out a large group of people who are naturally more productive in the afternoon or evening. But do what works best for YOU! Side note - you can always become a morning person if you truly wish to be. 

 

First thing I do in the morning is my daily morning routine that consists of the Miracle Morning. I suggest reading the book Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod. It has been life changing for me and I have really enjoyed being a morning person since reading that book and implementing the strategy. 

 

Next thing I do is called a brain dump. I write out all of the things I think I need to get done in the next week or so. Literally everything my brain can think of. Exercise. Meals. Appointments. Work. Budgeting. Meetings. Daycare. You name it! 

 

I am currently using the Law of Attraction Planner which I found on Amazon. I write out all of my MUST DO'S for the week like work, appointments, etc. Then I write out all of my non-negotiable like self-care, meet ups, food prep, exercise, etc.

 

I CREATE the time in my calendar for the things that are important to me. I don't factor in social media scrolling, TV time or other things that are time and energy sucking. I am very intentional with my time nowadays which is why I believe others think I get more done in a day than most. 

 

I transfer everything into my Google Calendar when I am done so that I have a mobile version of my week also. The paper planner helps me take the time to figure out what's important to me then I move everything over and set reminders or timers for my weekly events. 

 

Another tip that I do is if you still find yourself overwhelmed by your to-do list, pick ONLY 3 things each day and focus on giving that 110%! Everything else is BONUS! I typically pick one thing for myself, one thing for my family, and one thing for my business. I tend to choose the thing that I have been putting off or resisting the most. It really clears up the mental space for other things when you're not procrastinating. 

 

Retrain your brain to do less. This is going to be REALLY hard at first. It was sooo hard for me because I think our society does a really good job at making mom's feel like they have to do all the things all at the same time and not complain or be tired. Be a mom, work, cook, clean, run a business. Oh and don't complain about it! hahah (such BS)

 

So there you have it! Take an hour or two every Sunday to set up your week. Get a planner that works for you. Transfer everything into an online calendar. Get intentional about what REALLY needs to get done and what can get moved to the next week. You'll start to see what you are prioritizing based on what you schedule and what you actually get done.
