4 Reasons Why You Should Attend a Women’s Retreat This Year

written by Sausha Davis

I’ll be honest, I didn’t even know what a retreat was a few years ago. When the coach I was working with at the time explained to me what a retreat actually was… I was all in immediately! I didn’t care about time, money, location, or anything else. I just knew I had to be on that retreat and experience the things she was talking about.

Growing up, I thought these types of things were out of my reach. I thought retreats, spas, self care, businesses, and all that jazz was just for rich folk and not for someone like me. Who was I to want nice things? Who was I to want to take vacations and treat myself? How dare I do these things in my life?!?!?!?!

But something magical happened after that very first retreat. I came back a new person. I had to space to be myself without any strings attached! It was glorious! And a little scary… It had been years since I had felt like myself. I always felt like I had to put on a show for other people, ya know? Mom, wife, manager, etc. I was never just allowed to BE ME. So this retreat was more than just a few days away for me. It was transformational.

So let me share with you a few reasons I think EVERY women should attend a retreat and make this part of their annual personal and professional development. It will forever change your life and you will meet some cool people and go to some cool places along the way.

1) Deepen your connection with yourself. I had started to forget who I was as a person. After kids and climbing the corporate ladder, I wasn’t sure who I was anymore. It was clouded by the never ending to-do lists, constant demands of others, always putting out fires and barely making any space for myself. The few times I did make space for myself, I would go on vacation but it was almost like I needed a vacation from my vacation when I got back home.

All of my vacations were jam packed with things to do, people pleasing, drinking, binging, and still not allowing myself to be myself. I would come back more tired than I left! Lol that’s not the point of vacations yet that’s what always seems to happen. Retreats are a unique way to connect with yourself on a deeper level without having to worry about what other people are thinking, saying or doing.

2) Push yourself out of your comfort zone. Retreats are meant to expand you! Retreats are meant to push your limits mentally, physically, spiritually, emotionally, and sometimes financially. If a retreat doesn’t challenge you in some way, shape or form, then it likely wasn’t the best retreat for you. I always say there is a lesson in the retreats you choose to attended.

Maybe the retreat pushes your budget a little. I’ve seen retreats range from $800 - $10,000 depending on the type of experience you are going after. You’re in luck though! My retreats are unforgettable and affordable!

Maybe the retreat pushes you to try something that you would never do on your own. The very first retreat I hosted, I brought all of my oracle cards, crystals, singing bowls and a few other things totally not knowing if people would be into them or not. Turns out, everyone LOVED them! None of them had really experienced that type of stuff before so this was a great opportunity for them to try something new in a safe space.

Maybe signing up to go alone if a huge step for you! I remember the first time I traveled alone and holy smokes – it was equally terrifying and freeing! Now I absolutely love traveling alone but I don’t know if Id be able to say that without taking the leap all those years ago.

3) You will make friends for life. Retreats allow you to meet new like-minded people. I honestly never though it would be so hard to make friends as an adult. Retreats are a great way to connect with others on a deeper level beyond all the superficial BS we normally talk about in passing at the grocery store or local baseball game. Plus its really cool to meet people who are into the same kinda things as you.

So if you’re into adventure, travel, horses, hippie stuff and you’re a little on the inappropriate humor, sarcastic-in-a-fun-way type of person, then you’ll absolutely love my retreats! We like to do the work necessary to take our lives to the next level but that doesn’t mean we sacrifice fun while doing it!

4) They empower you to truly live life and be present. There are few things quite like a retreat that empower you to be fully present in the moment. Imagine this – no distractions, no TV, no people asking you to do things for them, no work, no laptop, no emails, no phone. Just you. Present. In the moment. Its very empowering!

Too often I hear women say – I just want more time to be myself or to find out who I truly am! And honestly, it can be a bit scary when you’re first starting on that journey to finding yourself again. It feels a little overwhelming when you’re not distracted by your everyday chaotic life. But I promise you will leave with so much clarity on what your next steps in life are. Its magical what happens when you create the space for yourself to just BE you. To find yourself again.

So there you have it! My top 4 reasons why you should attend a retreat this year – if not every single year!!! I’m sure there are a million other reasons I can share with you on why you should come on a retreat with me, or anyone for that matter, but I want you to EXPERIENCE it for yourself!
